Helen Elizabeth Deavers, 90, of Hagerstown, passed away, Sunday, August 31, 2014 at her home.
Born, October 15, 1923 in Hagerstown she was the daughter of the late, John Allen and Mary Devona (Eyler) Beard. In addition to her parents she also was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 63 years, James Franklin Deavers; five brothers, William Allen Beard, Robert Dale Beard, Jack McClellen Beard, Charles Edward Beard and Edwin Lee Beard; two sisters, Betty Jane Beard Monicker and Mary Leota Beard Mullendore.
Mrs. Deavers had worked as a switchboard operator during W.W.II and later for the Maryland State Highway Administration.
She was a member of Grace Bible Church, Greencastle.
Her hobbies included, cooking, canning, baseball and philanthropy and she cared for a number of elderly relatives.
She is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Y. Rotz and husband Duane of Hagerstown; one granddaughter, Lindsay O'Neil and husband, Doug; three brothers, Donald Beard and wife Thelma of Hagerstown, John Beard and wife, Linda of Hagerstown and Neal Beard and wife, Shirley of Boonsboro; one sister, Joyce Miner of Boonsboro; brother in law, Thomas Mullendore of Boonsboro.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown with Pastor's Herman Fisler and Gerald Carbaugh officiating.
Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-8 P.M. and on Thursday, one hour prior to services.
