Jack Layman Reed

Jack Layman Reed, 83, of Hagerstown, beloved husband and father was called to be with the lord at 8:17 A.M., on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at the Doey’s House of Washington County.

Born July 11, 1941 in Hagerstown, Maryland, he was the son of the late Kelly Gilmore Reed and Wanda Olivia (Nokes) Reed. In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (Pryor) Reed; son, Jack Reed Jr.; one brother, William Reed; three sisters, Delores Vincent, Deanna Plotner and Dolly Reed.

He retired from The Coca Cola Company in Hagerstown then spent his time buying and selling at auctions and flea markets.

He is survived by two daughters Lori (Reed) Shirk and husband, John of Hagerstown, Cathy (Summers) Spies and husband Jeff of Waynesboro; one son, John Reed of Hagerstown; one sister, Donna Rager; two brothers, Kelly Reed and Gary Reed; seven grandchildren, Rachel Shirk, Matthew Shirk, Ashley (Spies) Cline, Brittany (Spies) Christophel, Tyler Spies, Katelyn Spies and Meghan Reed; and four great grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Monday, October 21, 2024, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Avenue, Hagerstown. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, October 22 at 11:00 a.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Zook officiating. Interment at Rest Haven Cemetery will follow.
