James Allen Hanley, 81, of Boston, NY, passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Meritus Medical Center.
Born April 28, 1935 in Punxsutawney, Pa., he was the son of the late George Clarence and Maude Marie (Reeseman) Hanley.
He was a veteran of the United States Army.
James worked as a carpenter, a trade he learned after graduating high school.
He was a member of the Buffalo Carpenters Union for 50 years.
James had a passion for military surplus. He turned his hobby into a business, selling military items such as generators and tents. He enjoyed attending gun shows as well as outdoor shows.
He is survived by six children, Sharon Hanley, Darlene Townsend, James Hanley, Jr., Thomas Hanley, Laurie Sasse, and Sue Hanley; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary, Maxine, Kathy; and six brothers, Sam, Bob, Paul, Bud, George, and Raymond.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at the Jefferson Street Social Hall, 201 N. Jefferson St., Punxsutawney, PA, with Pastor John Swonger officiating.
Inurnment will take place in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
