James Edward Green, 95, of Martinsburg, passed away on Monday, March 5, 2018 at his home, while surrounded by his loving family.
Born November 1, 1922, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late William Steiner and Carrie (Baker) Green.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Saxon Virginia (Cavanaugh) Green, who died Feb. 24, 2006; a daughter, Linda Green Wasilius; and five siblings, Evelyn Stevenson, Robert Green, Kenny Green, Francis Shaub, and infant, Bernard Green.
James was a member of Welty Church of the Brethren in his youth.
He retired from the Western Maryland Railroad as an engineer.
He enjoyed farming, fishing, and gardening. James also had a love for working with and training horses; a hobby he enjoyed with his daughter.
Surviving him is a daughter, Sally Ann Anderson and husband Richard; two granddaughters, Julie Lynne Wasilius, Laura Wasilius-McCann; two great-granddaughters, Haley McCann, Leela McCann; and a sister, Charlotte Birney Kretsinger and husband Robert.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, March 9, 2017 at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
