James Elwood “Jim” Lewis, 94, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed away on September 10, 2023, at Doey’s House. He was the beloved husband of 71 years to the late Joann Lewis.
Born on February 27, 1929, he was the son of the late Lester Lewis and Leona (Smith) Lewis. He was employed with Duvinage Corp until his retirement. He lived life doing what he loved, working on cars. He was a proud member of the Virginia Avenue Church of God.
He is survived by his daughter Dianne Gutteridge and husband Frank, grandchildren; Dawn Wiles and husband Bob and Heather Rudisill and daughter-in-law Sandy Lewis; great granddaughter, Julie Lewis; Mellissa Lewis; sister-in-law, Vernadine House; brother-in-law, Cecil Dagenhart; brother Lester Lewis and wife Mary Lou; sister, Kate Green and husband Jerry. He is also survived by Chase Eichelberger, Katlyn Willetts, and two special little boys Camden and Colton Eichelberger, as well as several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his beloved dog Roscoe.
In addition to his beloved wife, Joann; he was preceded in death by son, Terry; grandson, James; brothers-in-law, Donald Dagenhart and Donald House, sister-in-law, Betty; sisters, Hazel, Ruth, and Dorothy and half-brothers, Glenn and Raymond.
The funeral service will be held at the Virginia Avenue Church of God, 17306 Virginia Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21740 on Friday, September 11, 2023 at 11am, friends will be received one hour prior. Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn, 17636 W Washington St. Hagerstown.
The family would like to give a special thanks to all of the wonderful neighbors. Also, a very special thank you to his dear friend Red.
The family would also like to extend their most heartfelt thanks to two special nurses at Doey’s House Sue Hobbs and Stephanie Slaughter.
