Jane Rebecca "Becky" Elgin

Jane Rebecca "Becky" Elgin, 96, of Waynesboro, went to be with the Lord at her home on Monday, October 25, 2021.

Born November 14, 1924 in Hagerstown, MD she was the daughter of the Clyde and Nellie (Semler) Bowers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband Bill; her sister Dora Smith; her brother Bud Bowers; a granddaughter, Erin Swisher Youngbar; a grandson, Matthew J. Elgin; a daughter-in-law, Susan Blocher Elgin; and two sons-in-law – James Churchill and James Swisher. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, ten great-great grandchildren, and six nieces and nephews.

Becky was a 1943 graduate of Hagerstown High School and a graduate of the Washington County Hospital nursing school.

She worked as an OBGYN and a psychiatric nurse at the hospital and later served as a nurse at Guam Memorial Hospital on the island of Guam when she and her husband moved there in 1970.

After moving to Northern Virginia in 1977, she became involved with a Biblical Counseling Ministry at Barcroft Bible Church in Fairfax, VA. Later when she moved to Waynesboro and attended Otterbein Church, she was instrumental in starting a Biblical counseling ministry there. She was also an active supporter of Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) of southern Pennsylvania. She and her husband attended Otterbein Church for all the years they lived in Waynesboro.
Becky was a loving and caring mother of four children - William J. Elgin and wife Carolyn, Daniel E. Elgin and wife Bonnie, Nancy L. Churchill Souders and husband Foster, and Peggy A. Swisher and her late husband Jim.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 7, 2021 at Otterbein Church, 912 S. Potomac St, Waynesboro, PA., with the Rev. Michael Newman officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 3:00 with the service beginning at 3:00.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Otterbein Church of Waynesboro or West End Baptist Chapel, 59 Winter Street in Hagerstown, MD.
