Janet Marie Swope

Janet Marie Swope, 86 of Fairplay, Md passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side on Friday, July 19, 2024, at Julia Manor, Hagerstown Md. Born March 9, 1938, in Hagerstown Md, she was the daughter to the late Charles Edward Sr., and Helen Virginia (Edwards) Kretzer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Harold Swope of 49 years, sister; Connie R Burgan, brothers; Charles Kretzer, Rev. Robert Kretzer, and Gary Kretzer.

Janet was a member of the New Covenant Fellowship Independent Church in Boonsboro, MD. She was a homemaker and in her younger days she was a great cook. She was very devoted to her siblings and enjoyed the times she had with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Kershner, Robin Poffenberger, her sisters’ Rev. Anna Mae Forsyth of Hagerstown, and Mary Shipley of Williamsport, brothers; Rev. Donald Kretzer of Hagerstown, and Danny Kretzer of Mannington, WV, four grandchildren; Gary Poffenberger, Jeffrey Kershner, Karri Hornbaker, and Kelly Fox, six great grandchildren; Chase, and Brook Poffenberger, Raeden and Rilynn Kershner, Annabelle, and Charlotte Fox, one great  great grandson; Asher Poffenberger.

A graveside service will be held Friday, July 26, 2024, at 11:30 P.M. at the Mountain View Cemetery, 299 E Main St, Sharpsburg, MD 21782 with Pastor Richard Rutherford officiating.

 After a long 8-year Journey, she is finally at peace. We, the family can’t begin to express our gratitude and appreciation for all the staff at Julia Manor and Hospice of Washington County for taking such good care of our mother, and both myself and sister during this long Journey. Thank you so much!
