Jean Emmit Little

January 4, 1925 — March 21, 2015

Jean Emmit Little, 90, of Hagerstown, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at his home.

Born January 4, 1925 in Hancock, he was the son of the late Benjamin P. and Grace Pearl (Coffman) Little.

Jean was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII. He was apart of the Merrill’s Marauders Unit which fought in the South-East Asian Theatre of World War II. His unit marched 1,000 miles through India, Burhma, and China.

He was a member of St. Ann Roman Catholic Church in Hagerstown as well as the Morris Frock American Legion Post No. 42.

Jean started his career with Heer Industrial Engineers until the construction of the building was completed. He went to work as a pipe fitter for Mack Truck in 1963 and stayed on until his retirement many years later.

Jean was an avid painter and enjoyed painting historical landscapes.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, M. Eleanor (Smith) Little; a son, Lynn Hammond Little of Hedgesville, WV.; a step daughter, Joan Oddono Bernhard of Hagerstown; two granddaughters, Lauren B. Ryder, Ashley E. Ryder; five step-grandchildren, Jeremy Ryder, Randy Ryder, Jr., Richard Bernhard, Mary Bernhard Montoro, Jill Bernhard; a sister, Myrna Palmer of Hagerstown; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Brinkman (Little) Ryder; and four brothers, Bernard, Philip, Laurence, and Gary Little.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at St. Ann's Catholic Church,1525 Oak Hill Ave., Hagerstown, with Monsignor J. Bruce Jarboe officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery with military honors being accorded by the Maryland State Honor Guard and the Joint Veteran's Council of Washington County.

Friends will be received on Tuesday from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.
