Jeannine Lazo, 88, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed away peacefully in the early hours of September 9. Born in Huntington, West Virginia, Jeannine was the only child of Lillian and Guy Gochenour. She studied nursing and worked as a Registered Nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, where she met her husband of 54 years, Alfonso Lazo, during his residency there as a young doctor. Jeannine and Alfonso subsequently relocated to Baltimore, then to Hagerstown, where Jeannine devoted her life to raising her two children. She later resumed her nursing career at Avalon Manor, where she worked as the Assistant Director of Nursing, mentoring many young nurses and nursing students. Jeannine had a lifelong love of horses and was an accomplished equestrienne. She particularly enjoyed the company of dogs and young children and will be remembered by the many whose lives she touched for her caring and nurturing spirit. Per her request, there will be no formal funeral ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Mary’s Medical Center School of Nursing in Huntington, WV (st-marys.org). Jeannine was preceded in death by her husband Alfonso. She is survived by her son Joseph (Wisconsin), her daughter Teresa (Pennsylvania), and her two grandchildren Claire and Jonah.
