Jessie Irene Wynkoop (86) of Boonsboro, MD passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 24, 2022. Born September 11, 1936, she was the daughter of Lola and Jesse Witmer of Hagerstown.
Jessie worked as a seamstress for 70 years. Most recently, she worked at Ingram’s Men’s Shop and also made alterations from her home.
Jessie loved her family, spending most of her time with them at home, sports games, recitals, or calling them on the phone (usually when you were about to sit down for dinner). She loved to sew, roller-skate, and could never pass up a good yard sale. She also enjoyed her time as a majorette in the Hagerstown Drum Bugle Corps. She was strong-willed and always honest.
She is survived by her son, Douglas Wynkoop and wife Cathy, son, Gregory Wynkoop and wife Lisa, and daughter, Ronda Shifler and husband Mike; three granddaughters, Tracey Malcolm, Kelly Wynkoop, and Angie Wynkoop; three grandsons, Douglas Wynkoop and wife Tara, Cameron Shifler and wife Jill, and Sean Wynkoop and fiancée Samantha Baldwin; 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her first great-great-grandchild, who is due in November.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Mahlon “Gump” Andrew Wynkoop, and three sisters, Betty Witmer, Mary Cool, and Carol Staubs.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 30, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.
Burial will be follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 6:30-8:30 P.M.
