Joan L. Kohler, 90, of Hagerstown, went to be with the lord on Friday, September 8, 2023, at Doey’s House, just 2 days before her 91st birthday. Born September 10, 1932, in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late Noble F. and Genevieve (Newcomb) Simpson.
Joan graduated from Coolidge High School, in Washington, DC, and went on to be a secretary to J. Edgar Hoover at the FBI until marrying her late husband Bob in 1954. After marriage, Joan was a homemaker. Joan and Bob were married for 54 years until Bob’s passing in 2009.
Joan is survived by a son, Karl Kohler and wife Shannon of Hagerstown; a daughter Karen Suranno of Hagerstown; three granddaughters, Kendall Suranno of Waynesboro, PA; Emily Suranno of Hood River, Oregon, and Gretchen Kohler of Hagerstown, Maryland; and a grandson, Brady Kohler of Hagerstown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joan was preceded in death by her late husband or 54 years, Robert Kohler; a brother Noble F. Simpson; and sisters Gladys E. Sibley and Ethel Mae Gibson.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 11 AM at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Avenue, Hagerstown, MD.
Friends will be received one hour prior to the service.
