Joan Ray Estes, 78, of Boonsboro, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2017, at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown.
Born in Burlington, North Carolina on February 25, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Lina Parish (Lloyd) and Herbert Eugene Ray. In addition to her parents, Joan is preceded in death by one brother, Julian Ray; three sisters, Ella Perry, Polly Edwards and Bobbie Ann Zimmerman; and a great granddaughter Brooklyn Faith Thompson.
Joan attended The Good Shepherd Ministries, was an auxiliary member of the American Legion in Funkstown Post 211, and a member of the Order of the Redfeather Pocahontas Ladies, post 832.
Joan is survived by her children, Cathy Sanford of Burlington, NC., Michael Estes and wife Franca of Port Saint Lucie, FL., Perry Estes and wife Mishele of Thurmont MD and Kristen Noel Estes of Boonsboro MD; ten grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Rest Haven Funeral Home Inc. 1601 Pennsylvania Ave. Hagerstown, MD.
Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Friends and family will be received on Thursday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Joan's name to the Washington County Humane Society 13011 Maugansville Rd. Hagerstown, MD 21740.
