Joan Evelyn Weisenmiller, 77, passed away peacefully, on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at Meritus
Medical Center. Joan was born on October 26, 1946, in Cumberland, MD. She was the daughter of the late Jake and Ada Cross. She was a 1964 graduate of Fort Hill High School.
Joan was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hagerstown, MD.
She loved babies, children, and worked in childcare for many years. She was a volunteer at Funkstown Elementary as a teacher’s aide when her own children attended there. She worked in the after-school programs at Western Heights Middle, Paramount and Hickory Elementary, Haven Lutheran Church, and Surrey Childcare Center. Joan saw the best in everyone, and her glass was always half full. She loved to draw and paint, and her family was the most important thing in her life. She loved having a full house, cooking, and feeding everyone.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jake, and Ada cross; sister, Patricia Watts; brother-in-law, Reverend Jack Ewald, cousin, Kevin Crites, sister-in-law, Nancy Weisenmiller, and niece Gretchen Weisenmiller.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Charles Weisenmiller; son, Scott Weisenmiller and daughter, Chris Eberhart; son-in-law, Brian Eberhart; grandchildren Ryan Weisenmiller, Maedene Weisenmiller, Nicholas Eberhart, and Ethan Eberhart; sister, Barbara Ewald; children John, David, and Michelle. A very special cousin, Cheryl Cernetich, and husband Greg; children, Kelly, and Robbie; bother- in -law Warren and wife Maria Watts; children Keith and Debbie. Brother- in- law Michael, and wife Maggie Weisenmiller; children Eric and Timmy. Brother-in-law William, and wife Mary Weisenmiller; children Mark, Beth, and Danny. Sister-in-law Joan and husband, Bob Ruppenkamp; children Jennifer, Stephanie, Jeff, Robbie, Greg, Josh, and Zac. Brother- in -law Ernie, and wife Cindy Weisenmiller; children Jill, Taryn, and Troy. Brother-in-law John, Weisenmiller; children Sarah, Jeremy, Billy, and Alex. Brother-in- law Christopher, and Renae Weisenmiller; children Heather, Tasha, Anthony, Seth, Ethan, and Alyssia. Brother- in- law Andy, and wife Debbie Weisenmiller; children Michael, Stephan, Grace, and many great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all the amazing nurses, doctors, and staff in 4 East of Meritus Medical Center, and all the doctors that have cared for her over the years. Words cannot express how much we appreciate all the care and love that was given to her.
A memorial service will be held on, Thursday, November 16th, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Avenue, Hagerstown, MD with a reception to follow at the funeral home.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday two hours prior to the service.
