Joann (Dagenhart) Lewis, 87, of Hagerstown, passed away on Monday, April 26, 2021 at Doey's House.
Born on December 10, 1933 in Myersville, MD, Joann was the daughter of the late Viola (Dagenhart) Shank. She was also preceded in death by her son, Terry E. Lewis; her brother, Donald Dagenhart; sister, Betty Davis; son-in-law, Nelson E. Rudisill; and brother-in-law, Donald House.
Joann was a very active member of Virginia Avenue Church of God, where she taught Sunday School and Wednesday Night Church for Children for over 30 years alongside her sister. She also loved baking pies and muffins for family, friends, and neighbors.
Joann is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, James Elwood Lewis; her daughter, Dianne Gutteridge and her husband, Frank; her daughter-in-law, Sandy Lewis; her brother, Cecil Dagenhart; and her sister, Vernadine House. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Dawn Wiles and her husband, Robert; Heather N. Rudisill; James T. Lewis and his wife, Mellissa; her great-granddaughter, Julie A. Lewis; Camden and Colton Eichelberger, whom she treasured; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at Virginia Avenue Church of God (17306 Virginia Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21740) on Friday, April 30, 2021 at 12:00 PM, with Pastors Paul Harne and Shawn Bushman officiating. Visitors will be received at the church at 11:00 AM. Committal will follow at Cedar Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Virginia Avenue Church of God.
