John Donald Shubert Sr., 82, of Hagerstown, passed away Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown.
Born Jan. 18, 1928, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late William H. Sr. and Anne (Harden) Shubert.
John was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lydia R. Shubert, who went to be with the Lord in May 2005.
He was a 1945 graduate of Hagerstown High School.
John served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was of Protestant faith.
John was a local 171 UAW union representative for many years at Mack Trucks and at Fairchild Aircraft. He was a member of the UAW Local 171 Retirees; American Legion Post No. 211, Funkstown; and Mack Golden Bulldogs.
He retired in 1987 from Mack Trucks after 26 years of service.
He is survived by a daughter, Darlene Myerly and husband, Scott; a son, John D. Shubert Jr. and wife, Sherrie; a granddaughter, Jennifer Shubert; three grandsons, Derek Myerly, Christopher Shubert and Sean Myerly; a great-granddaughter, Lexie Shubert; a great-grandson, Liam Shubert; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Sprecher and Sarah â??Bettyâ? Slayman; and two brothers, William H. Shubert Jr. and Robert S. Shubert.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Friends will be received Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
