John Edward Motz, 63, of Hagerstown, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born April 27, 1948, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Richard Arthur â??Dickâ? Motz and Jane E. (Harms) Motz.
John attended North Hagerstown High School.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during Vietnam.
He was a former member of the Hagerstown Moose Club and the Hagerstown Redmanâ??s Club.
John worked in construction and also restored antiques.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary E. (Palmer) Motz; a daughter, Tasha Lee Motz; a stepson, Terry Lee Hamby; a brother, David B. Motz and wife, Carolyn; two nephews, Dr. Brian Motz and Kevin Motz, all of Hagerstown; his beloved dog, Coco; and his beloved cat, Crystal.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard A. Motz Jr., who died in 1962.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, with military honors being conducted by Morris Frock American Legion Post No. 42.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
