Ret. LCdr Jon W. Whitton, 88, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away, Sunday, October 2nd, 2022, at his home lovingly attended by his wife and three children.

Born May 7, 1934 in Atlanta, Georgia, he was the son of the late, Walter Frank and Margaret Inez (Wilson) Whitton. In addition to his parents he also was preceded in death by a son, Don Bradley Whitton; two brothers, his twin, Don Whitton and Jack Whitton and one sister, Margaret Maughon.

Mr. Whitton was a 1960 graduate of the University of Georgia where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree and then continued his education at the American University with a Master of Arts in International Relations.

Mr. Whitton retired from the US Navy as a LCdr, He attended flight school in Pensacola Florida and received his Navy wings and served as a navigator. After his retirement from the Navy he then worked as an administrator for the Masters program at the University of Southern California, University of Denver and Capitol College, Maryland.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hagerstown; the Sr. Citizens Club, Hagerstown. He and his wife, Mary enjoyed round dancing with several clubs in Virginia, Maryland and most recently in Hagerstown.

Mr. Whitton is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary J. (Harbin) Whitton; three children, Pamela W. Pearce and husband, Bruce, Britt Whitton and J. Lane Whitton; one brother, Richard Whitton; three grandchildren, Chad Pearce and wife, Kisha, Jennelle Navarro and husband, Daniel and Shane Pearce and wife, Lisa and three great grandchildren, Paisley, Zauryn and Alina.

Funeral services will be conducted this Saturday, October 8th, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1253 Mt. Aetna Rd., Hagerstown with Bishop Tim Harrast officiating.

Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Friends will be received at the Church on Saturday one hour prior to the service for viewing.
