Joseph McDonald Henderson Jr., of Hagerstown, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.
Born on April 15, 1944, in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He was the son of the late Joseph and Thelma Henderson. Joseph graduated from North Hagerstown High School, where he was an outstanding athlete. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge #278 of Hagerstown. He attended Kings Apostle and Second Christian Church.
He is survived by his daughters, Mary Beck, (Todd), Debra Camper, Doris Campbell, Molly Smith (Andy), special granddaughter Cilena Lewis (whom he lived with for a number of years) and adopted son Oliver Campher III. Sisters; Irma Branch; Diane Dickson, Silvia Scott, Claudia Fuller (Merrill), sixteen grandchildren, fifty-two great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family both locally and from New Jersey.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Henderson (Sager), his brothers, John Henry Johnson; Leroy Alton Henderson; sisters, Mary Janet Henderson and infant twin sisters; brothers-in-law, Marshall Branch, Lawrence Dickson Sr.; Winston Scott Sr. Sons-In-law, Oliver Campher Jr., and Cecil Campbell, grandsons; Dwight Lewis Jr.; Joey Diamond Campbell; Wesley Burnett Jr., Fernando Broadus Jr., Keenan Joseph Lewis and Maceo Burns and granddaughter, Angel Campher.
Friends and family will be received from 10-11am on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Asbury Methodist Church, 155 N Jonathan Street, Hagerstown, MD 21740. The funeral service will begin at 11am at the church.
The family would like to express its sincere thanks and appreciation to the following: Hospice of Washington County (Danielle and Dee); Dr. Bryson (Urologist of Robinwood)and his staff (esp. Miranda) and friends for their calls, texts, cards and love donations. Our Dad was truly loved.
