Joyce Ann Higgins

Joyce Ann (Zimmerman) Higgins, 89, of Hagerstown, MD. passed away Sunday, March 13, 2022 at her home.

Born April 30, 1932, in Waynesboro, PA., she was the daughter of the late Harry Nelson and Jeannette Elizabeth (Miller) Zimmerman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 55 years, John D. Higgins, whom she married on July 31, 1954; four siblings, Walter "Pete" Zimmerman, Helen (Zimmerman) Rager, Maxine (Zimmerman) Marskie and Adene (Zimmerman) Freeman.

Mrs. Higgins was a 1954 graduate of Waynesboro High School.

In addition to being a full-time homemaker for over 56 years, she had worked as a telephone operator in Waynesboro and as an office Administrator for Tilo Roofing Company in Hagerstown.

She was a long-time member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church and served on the council numerous times.

Her hobbies were many, including sewing, needlepoint, quilting, basket weaving and ceramics. With her love of crafts, she was a member of the local Homemakers Club and Embroiderers' Guild of America, and enjoyed judging quilt competitions in Washington and the surrounding counties.

Mrs. Higgins is survived by two sons, Michael and Marc Higgins and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown with Rev. Hoda Zavandro officiating.

Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday one hour prior to the service.
