Kanya B. Choonit

Kanya Choonit, age 64, passed away from kidney failure on July 18th at the Lorien Hospice Nursing care, Columbia MD at 8:30 PM. Kanya is survived by her two children, Bo (Kasirat Villa), Ken (Kanavit Choonit), and Pravit Choonit; two older sisters living in Thailand, Daranee and Sawalipirom; an older brother in California, Thepanomnimit (Thep); and her younger sister, Patty (Patamawadee).

Kanya Buasap Choonit (also known as Maria) was born on September 3, 1949 to a Thai diplomat, Mr. Dusadee Ngernwichit and his wife, Chalaem Ngernwichit. From 1964-1969, she traveled the world as a child with her parents and sister, Patty and seen many cultures including Thailand, Netherlands, and the Philippines. She converted to Catholicism during her school years and loved God ever since. She met a Thai Catholic through the Valentine club and the two married in a Catholic church in October 1971 in Thailand.

Kanya and Pravit immigrated to the states in 1977 and raised their two children there in an extended family unit. Kanya worked in a variety of jobs from 7-11, waitressing, and sales associate to support her family. She helped instill values and did the best she could to raise us. We will never forget her unconditional love.
