Hagerstown, MD Larry Gene Gordon, 89, of Hagerstown, passed away on Father's Day, Sunday, June 21, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born December 16, 1925 in Fairview, Maryland he was the son of the late, George McClellan Gordon, Sr. and Gladys Viola (Frush) Gordon. In addition to his parents he also was preceded in death by a brother, George M. Gordon, Jr.; a sister, Marie P. Robinson; five half-brothers and four half-sisters.
Mr. Gordon was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of WW II, having served two separate deployments in the Philippines as a part of his service.
He retired as chief train dispatcher for the Western Maryland Railroad and following retirement, was a registered master plumber being owner/operator of L.G. Gordon Plumbing & Heating.
He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Hagerstown; Morris Frock Post 42, American Legion, Hagerstown, a founding member and past president of the Big Ridge Gun Club, Allegany County MD and a past president of the Hickory Ridge Hunting Club, Indian Springs, MD.
Mr. Gordon is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Elva Irene (Mundey) Gordon; one daughter, Lois A. Harbaugh and husband Richard, Sr. of Hagerstown; one sister, Doris A. Reynard of Hagerstown; two grandsons, Richard K. Harbaugh II and wife Kim, Jon-Michael Harbaugh, Sr. and wife Tanya, all of Hagerstown; five great grandchildren, Richard K. Harbaugh III, Nicholas Walker Harbaugh, Jon-Michael Harbaugh II, Robert Austin Harbaugh and Brooks Parker Harbaugh; as well as numerous loving nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice of Washington County for their services and exceptional care in which they provided.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown with Rev. Kibreab Gudeta officiating.
Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by the Maryland National Guard and Morris Frock Post 42 honor guards.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6-8 P.M.
