Larry Swope

Larry Richard Swope, aged 74, a resident of Hagerstown Healthcare Center and formerly of Smithsburg, MD passed Wednesday, November 23rd, 2022 in the nursing home.

Born October 17th, 1948 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Richard T. and Ethel Louise (Smith) Swope.

Mr. Swope was employed for 26 years at Cavetown ACE Home Center in Cavetown, MD.

He was a past member of Agape Harvester Church in Williamsport, MD—a church he helped build. His strong Christian faith and his church family were a large part of his life. In his earlier years, he was into classic cars and enjoyed bowling.

He is survived by his wife Kay Swope of Smithsburg, a brother, Melvin L. Swope and wife Betty of Waynesboro, PA, four sons, Kevin S. Swope and wife Peggy of Smithsburg, Jeff Swope of Nashville, TN, Mark Swope and fiancée Katie Lushbaugh of Robinwood and Josh Swope of Smithsburg, and one daughter, Melissa D. Swope of Front Royal, VA, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Deborah Jean Swope Trumpower (D. 2007) and a son Jeffrey Lynn who died as an infant in 1966.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at Rest Haven Funeral Home in Hagerstown, MD on Thursday, December 1st from 1-3pm. A memorial service will be conducted by Pastor John Flick at 3pm that afternoon.

In lieu of flowers, Mr. Swope’s family requests donations be made to the funeral home for expenses.
