Lavinia Irene "Tootie" Bowers, 96, of Hagerstown, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter and son-in-law on Sunday, Janaury 8, 2017.
Born July 20, 1920 in Chelsea, Michigan she was the daughter of the late, Guy Gilbert Godlove and Ethel (Stouffer) Godlove. In addition to her parents she also was preceded in death by her former husband of 40 years, Harold Eugene Bowers; two grandchildren, Robert Barnes II and Lora Welter; one brother, James Godlove; one sister, Betty Wolfensburger; a special friend, John Burger and three nieces and one nephew.
Mrs. Bowers was a member of the Hagerstown Church of the Brethren.
She was formerly employed by the Hagerstown Rubber Co., Eastern Products and the Maryland Ribbon Co., where she retired in 1986.
She is survived by two daughters, Deanna Gower Lindsay, Carolyn Smith and son-in-law, Buck Smith of Hagerstown; one son, Denny Bowers of Mercersburg, Pa.; one sister, Mildred Hawthorne and a brother, Robert G. Godlove, both of Hagerstown; five grandchildren, Kimberly Presgraves, Donnie Gower, Tim Barnes, Pam Williams and John Gower; numerous great and great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown with Rev. Mike Simane officiating.
Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Lavinia's name to the Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown 21742.
