Lawrence James Kenney

Lawrence James Kenney, 75, of Hagerstown, passed away, Thursday, January 28th, at Doey's House.
Lawrence (Larry) James Kenney was born October 17, 1945 in Queens, New York and moved to Long Island as a child. Larry graduated from Malverne High School in 1963 where he was a member of Omega Gamma Delta fraternity. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era and was stationed in Hawaii. He was a photographer who worked on several special operation and top secret projects. He developed the world famous picture "Earth Rise" that was taken during the moon landing. His love of photography carried through his entire life and he was always an avid photographer. After the Navy, Larry became a Registered Nurse and worked at a Cardiac Care Unit and in home health. He met his wife, Debbie, after moving to Hagerstown. They were married in October 2007 in Las Vegas in a ceremony accompanied by an Elvis impersonator. He was a baseball manager with Smithsburg Valley Senior League and active with Valley Adult League baseball. Larry was always fun to be around, laughing, always had a story to tell, and plenty of bad "Larry jokes." He will be missed dearly by his loving wife Debbie Kenney and pup Kodak. He is survived by his wife Debbie Kenney of Hagerstown, son Brian Kenney of Austin, Texas, Daughters Jennifer and husband Ray Allen of Beckley WV, Beth Ross of Daniels WV, and Rebecca and husband Eric Neely of Martinsburg WV. Grandchildren Brett Allen, Christopher Allen, Hunter Allen, Emily Neely, James Ross, Brady Neely, Wesley Ross, Aaron Ross, Jean Marie Kenney and Patricia Rose Kenney. Great-grandchildren Colton Allen and Mason Allen. Brother, Richard Kenney and wife Barbara of Springfield, VA. Multiple cousins, nieces and nephews. Last, but not least, his favorite child of all, his fur baby Kodak. He was proceeded in death by his parents Lawrence and Noreane (Field) Kenney and son Patrick Michael Kenney. Larry loved his family and we're sure he is happy to be reunited with them all. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 1st at 1:00 PM with Rev. James Gross officiating, burial with military honors will follow. Friends will be received on Sunday from 4-6 PM and one hour prior to the service.
