Leonard Robert McNairn

Leonard Robert McNairn, 74, of Maugansville, passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family.

Born on, March 24, 1940 in Fiddlersburg near Hagerstown, he was the son of the late, John D. and Fanny (Petre) McNairn. In addition to his parents he also was preceded in death by a son, Mark A. McNairn and a daughter, Lisa Ann McNairn.

Leonard was born on Easter Sunday March 24, 1940 and died on Easter Sunday April 20, 2014 but never had a birthday on Easter.

Mr. McNairn was a 1958 graduate of South Hagerstown High School.

He retired from Mack Truck in 1991 after 30 years of service and previously had worked for Porter Chemical Company.

He was a member of Salem Reformed Church and a former member of Shiloh United Methodist Church and a past member of the Maugansville Volunteer Fire Company.

Mr. McNairn was a proud 18 year survivor of the transplant program of the University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Betty Jacobs McNairn; a son, Sean C. McNairn and wife Bridgette of Maugansville; two grandchildren, Christopher and Abigale McNairn; one brother, Roy McNairn and wife Phyllis of Okeechobee, Fla. and Hagerstown and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown with Pastor Stephen Wagoner officiating.
Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Doey's Hospice House c/o Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
