Lloyd Alvin Stearns, Sr., 87, of Hagerstown, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Golden Living Center.
Born September 29, 1926 in Meadville, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Alvin and Florence ( Reese) Stearns. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a grandson, baby boy Deneen; and a great-grandson, Thomas Lloyd Stearns, Jr.
Lloyd served in the United States Navy during WW II in the European Theater.
He retired after 25 years of service as a machinist at Mack Truck.
He was a member of Broadfording Bible Brethren Church; Morris Frock American Legion Post 42; Hagerstown VFW Post No. 1936; and the Musicians Union Local 770.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Wanetta M. (Coleman) Stearns; four children, Lloyd A. Stearns, Jr. and wife Linda of Inwood, WV,Sandra Stoner and husband Allen of Freeland, MD, Daniel Stearns and wife Sandy of Hopewell, VA, Patricia Churchey and David of Bunker Hill, WV; seven grandchildren, Aney, April, Yvette, Heather, Tommy, Amanda, Jessica; 16 great-grandchildren, Bonnie, Bailey, Alexa, Zachary, Tory, Sidney, Wyatt, Allie, Nicole, Jared, Sophie, Chloe, Rozlynd, Aaron, Joshua, and David and two great great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00pm on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with Pastor Bill Wyand officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery where military honors will be accorded.
Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
