Lon Carl "Spoony" or "Snoots" Spoonire Jr., 60, of Hagerstown, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 18, 2011.
Born July 2, 1951, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Lon Carl Spoonire Sr. and Edith Marie (Hayslip) Spoonire.
He attended Emmanuel Baptist Church in Hagerstown and Lanes Run Mennonite Church, where he loved to hear Pastor Allen Strite preach.
Lon was an outdoorsman by heart. He loved hunting, fishing and crabbing every chance he got.
Lon served in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1971 while serving on the USS Kitty Hawk. He also served in the Army Reserves and National Guard from 1972 to 1979.
He was an independent painter, a home repairman and a welder at Grove Enterprises, as well as an inspector at Rayloc in Hancock, Md.
Lon is survived by two daughters, Christine Diane Spoonire-Snoots and husband, Brian Allan, of Hagerstown, and Angie Nichole Spoonire-Delauter and husband, Jeff, of Hancock; four brothers, David Spoonire of Pennsylvania, Richard Spoonire of Hagerstown, Steve Spoonire of Pennsylvania and Travis Spoonire of Hagerstown; four sisters, Janice Spoonire, Sharon Spoonire, Michelle Spoonire and Helga Spoonire, all of Hagerstown; five grandchildren, Amanda Nicole Snoots, Brian Allan Snoots Jr., Michael Anthony Sharer, Abbegail Victoria Sharer and Sheridan Nichole Sharer; several nieces and nephews; and his Jack Russell terrier, Cassie.
Lon loved his two daughters with all his heart and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He also dearly loved his nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with Pastor Allen Strite officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Rocky Gap State Veterans Cemetery, Flintstone, Md.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
