Martha Viola Gish, 93, of Hagerstown, passed away Friday, May 25, 2012, at her home.
Born June 21, 1918, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Marshall Jewell and Blanche Elizabeth (Runkles) Manspeaker.
She was a member of Evangel Baptist Church in Hagerstown, where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years and was well-known for her love of all of the children she taught.
Martha was a shoe inspector at Hagerstown Shoe Co. and retired after 39 years of employment.
She was the widow of Robert Leon Gish, and was preceded in death by eight sisters, Louise E. Greene, Ethel M. Myers, Rayetta V. Manspeaker, Mary A. Manspeaker, Edith P. King, Anna B. Frush, Frances H. Shank and Evelyn L. Manspeaker; and nine brothers, William M., Richard J., Howard W., Raymond C., Robert E., Henry F., Herbert L., Walter R. and Elmer L. Manspeaker.
The family would like to express its appreciation to her neighbors and friends for all of their acts of kindness shown to her throughout the years.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Evangel Baptist Church, 17922 Broadfording Road, Hagerstown, with Pastor Ronald Faith officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.
