Martin "Marty" McCall, Jr., 86 of Hagerstown, passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Meritus Medical Center, while surrounded by his loving family.
Born August 16, 1930 in Laurel Hill, NC, he was the son of the late Martin McCall, Sr. and Emmaline McCall.
Marty was the first black heavy equipment operator for the City of Hagerstown. He retired after over 35 years of service. Marty was also a seafood and sous-chef for several local restaurants. Marty took pride in the food he prepared and had a crab soup recipe that was unlike no other.
He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church; Elks Lodge #160; and the city retiree's breakfast club.
Marty enjoyed camping, golf and tennis as much as he loved coconut cake. He loved his children and grandchildren!
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Edith Marie McCall; an infant son, Robert McCall; two brothers, James H. McCall, Joe Ellison; two sisters, Emmalou McNeal, and Roxanne Baldwin.
Marty is survived by three children, Teresa McCall and Michael Hollingsworth, Marcia McCall-Saunders, Thomas Wayne McCall and wife Andrea Elizabeth Ruse McCall; a stepdaughter, Joyce Martens and husband David; a sister-in-law, Jeannette McCall; seven grandchildren, Marcia D. "Doni" McCall, Bryant Saunders and Kachina, Thomas Wayne McCall, Jr., Eunice McCall, Judahe McCall, Ezra T. McCall, Hezakiha L. McCall; 16 great-grandchildren; close friends, Reginald Keyes, Jack Koontz, and Eunice Monroe McCall; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and family.
A funeral will be conducted at 11:00am on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 155 N Jonathan St., Hagerstown, with Rev. Sharon Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 6-8pm on Friday at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 PA Ave., Hagerstown.
