Mary Alvira Beard, 89, of Hagerstown, passed away, Monday, January 29, 2018 at Shook Home, Chambersburg, Pa.
Born June 21, 1928 in Martinsburg, W.Va. she was the daughter of the late, William F. and Helen P. (Gillinger) Dunham. In addition to her parents she also was preceded in death by her loving husband of 44 years, Edwin Rufus Beard.
Mrs. Beard retired as a medical transcriptionist at a private practice and City Hospital in Martinsburg.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hagerstown; The West Virginia Society and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
Mrs. Beard enjoyed traveling and ball room dancing.
She is survived by three sons, Edwin R. Beard, Jr. and wife, Patricia of Greencastle, Pa., Michael E. Beard and wife, Dana of Martinsburg and Robert P. Beard of Waynesboro, Pa.; five grandchildren, Victoria, Justin, Joshua, Matthew and Alexander Beard; four great grandchildren, Parker, Paige, Abigale and Michael Beard; one brother, William F. Dunham, Jr. and wife, Jean,; two sisters, Patricia L. Slick and Bonnie K. Leatherman and husband, Paul.
A private graveside service will be conducted at the convenience of the family at Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
