Mary Ruth (Fiddler) Dowler, 95, of Hagerstown, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 28, 2021 surrounded by loving family at her home.
Born on January 31, 1926 in Leetown, WV, she was the daughter of the late Mamie (Johnson) and Lonnie Fiddler.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 49 years, Franklin W. Dowler, Jr., Grandson Donald Gipe, Jr., Sisters; Violet Fiddler, Daisy Clipp, Shirley Howe, Helen Gettel, Mildred Fiddler, Mamie Harnish, Margaret Cosgrove, Marie Davis, and Brothers; Marion Fiddler, Kenneth Fiddler, Robert Fiddler, Herman Fiddler, and Mahalon Fiddler.
Mary was a member for many years of First Baptist Church, Hagerstown.
She enjoyed gardening, crafting, cooking and baking, bowling, coloring, attending church and Bible Study, and spending time with family and friends.
She was a caregiver for many, having taken care of many of the sick in her neighborhood, a gentle spirit and devout Christian. Mary had a heart for giving and was loved by all who knew her. She is known for her quiet strength and her family was blessed by her unconditional love and support.
She is survived by her daughters; Anna Gipe and husband Donald, and Elva Jean Billig and husband Ronald, Grandchildren; Tracy Mumma and husband Howard Mumma Jr., Christopher Billig and wife Melinda and Stephanie Billig, Great-Grandchildren Mackenzie and Harrison Billig, Sister in law; Nancy Fiddler; Granddaughter in law, Judith Harris, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and great friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2021 from 12 to 2 PM at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. All guests will be required to wear masks and follow social distancing.
A graveside service will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Mary's name to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742, who cared so much for Mary this past year.
