Matilda "Tillie" Thompson Stains, 93, of Hagerstown, passed away, Thursday, November 8, 2018, at Brookdale Assisted Living, Hagerstown.
Born February 17, 1925 in Zebulon, Kentucky she was the daughter of the late, Anthony and Anna (Charles) Thompson. In addition to her parents she also was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Babb, one brother, Verl Thompson, two sisters, Lola McGuire and Marie Coyer, a grandson, John E. Stonebraker, IV and a son-in-law, Ralph R. Garver, Jr.
Tillie entered the workforce in 1949, working as a "Rosie the Riveter", manufacturing airplanes at Fairchild in Hagerstown. She was a hard worker who was respected by all of her co-workers. Tillie was also a talented seamstress who could create almost anything. She was an avid reader and an excellent cook. Tillie was a gentle, loving, caring, sweet woman who had a very strong faith. She loved her family and friends very much and enjoyed spending time with them.
She is survived by one daughter, Deanna J. Garver; one son, Gary D. Babb and wife, Kim Winebrenner, all of Hagerstown; one step-daughter, Sondra Talhelm and husband, Gus, of Hagerstown; one step-son, Jack Babb and wife Linda of Painesville, Ohio; two grandchildren, Matthew Stonebraker and Elizabeth Renner; four great-grandchildren, Gavin and Chloe McArthur and Madeline and Alexander Stonebraker.
Private graveside services will be conducted at the convenience of the family.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 from 12-1 P.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave. Hagerstown.
