Matthew David Skinner MARCH 24, 1989-APRIL 6, 2014
Matthew David Skinner, 25, of Philadelphia, Pa., and a native of Hagerstown, Md., passed away peacefully Sunday, April 6, 2014, at his home.
Matthew was a graduate of Washington County Technical High School.
Upon graduating, he worked as an elevator technician for Landmark Elevator. During that time, he also was active in spelunking groups around Maryland and tactical airsoft adventures.
Matthew then moved to College Park, Md., where he lived with his two brothers and they worked as cooks and bartenders at the local Hard Times Cafe.
Afterward, he moved to Alabama and worked with his Uncle David at a family-owned business as a security systems and home-theater technician.
Eventually, he moved back to Maryland and went to work at Environmental Quality Resources as a skilled laborer for stream and wetland restoration.
Continuing his journey, Matthew moved in with his father, Jeff Skinner, in New Jersey until he gained employment as a technician with Comcast Corp. in Philadelphia, where he lived with his stepbrother, Conor Travers.
Matthew's death was tragic, but his life, his memory and his spirit are inspirational.
Every person's life journey is unique and beautiful. Some journeys are shorter than others.
However, life is not defined by its duration. It's a collection of experiences with people, places and times.
It's the energy we bring with us and the people we spend our lives with.
Matthew was taken too soon from this world, but his energy and love will live on in the people whose lives he has touched and who had the honor of knowing him.
He was funny, sarcastic beyond belief, honest and strong. He had a huge heart and felt emotions on a very deep level, and while his journey was short, it was full of love and adventure, truly a blessing.
We love you, we miss you and we will always remember you.
Matthew is survived by his mother, Saskia Smith; father, Jeff Skinner; stepmother, Noreen Skinner; stepfather, Jim Smith; older brother, Daniel Skinner; younger brother, John Skinner; stepsiblings, James Smith, Kimberly Smith, Conor Travers, Cara Travers and Rosaleen Travers; and many other beloved family members.
A ceremony will be Saturday, April 12, 2014, at noon at St. Mary Catholic Church, Hagerstown. Burial services will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown, with a reception at St. Mark's Church in Boonsboro, Md.
