Melda Mae Castang, 80, of Hagerstown passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born Dec. 24, 1931, in Clearville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Russell William and Elva Mae (Clark) Snyder.
Mrs. Castang was a homemaker and a teacherâ??s assistant at the Truth Christian Academy, Hagerstown.
She was a member of the Church of God Universal, Hagerstown, and enjoyed sewing, reading, gardening and puzzles.
She is survived by nine children, Rebecca Bland (Barry) of Greencastle, Pa., Twila Kelley (Bruce) of Millwood, W.Va., Wilma Castang (friend Richard) of Monticello, Ill., Esther Martin (Stephen) of Hagerstown, Rosemary Harris (Bob) of Falling Waters, W.Va., Anna Alwell (Gary) of Pineville, La., Darese Arch (Duane) of Maugansville, Vivian Rupert (Reese) of Port Carbon, Pa., and Charnita Richards (Brian) of Falling Waters; three sisters, Ruth Mallow of Clearville, Leota Mills (Bob) of Marion, Pa., and Iva Price (John) of Everett, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Arlene Snyder, Martha Schwanebeck and â??daughterâ? Mary Castang; brothers-in-law, Ellis Klahre and Eldon Mills.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 32 years, Paul L. Castang; two sisters, Marjorie Klahre and Audrey Mills; two brothers, John and Palmer Snyder; sister-in law, Alma Snyder; and brother-in-law, Cleo Mallow.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, June 22, at 11 a.m. at the Church of God Universal, 12819 Point Salem Road, Hagerstown, with Pastors Alvin Craig and Greg Tyler officiating.
Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Friends will be received on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.
