Melvin Foster Rozier, 90, of Hagerstown, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village.
Born Nov. 4, 1921, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Charles and Margaret Gabriel (Maisak) Rozier.
He worked in a foundry on Lee Street in Hagerstown, where he learned the moulders trade. Shortly thereafter, he became a trainman for the Western Maryland Railway and retired as an engineer after 44 years of service.
Melvin was a member of Williamsport United Methodist Church; Friendship Lodge No. 84, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, Hagerstown; 32nd Degree Scottish Rite, Cumberland, Md.; and Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Hagerstown Forest No. 95. He was a past member of the Ali Ghan Shrine of Hagerstown and Cumberland; the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 378, Hagerstown; and the Loyal Order of Moose, Hagerstown.
In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Hilda Louise (Myers) Rozier, who died April 21, 2010.
He is survived by two daughters, Hilda Bender of Jacksonville, N.C., and Debra Cramer of Smithsburg; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Mark C. Mooney officiating. Interment will follow.
Friends will be received Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, where Friendship Lodge No. 84, AF&AM, will hold a memorial service at 7:30 p.m.
