Melvin Wayne Sours Sr., (Joe) 85, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed away peacefully at home with his children and his beloved wife of 50 years Rosa Mary Sours by his side.

Born on July 15, 1937 in Washington DC, he was the son of the late Marvin Trenton Sours and Lula Mae Orluck Sours. Melvin attended Clear Spring High School prior to proudly enlisting in the United States Navy to serve his country onboard the USS William M. Wood DD-715. Following his service, he began work in the transportation industry &  retired as an over the road truck driver. He attended Valley Assembly of God church faithfully and participated in many church activities and events. He was a member of the Maryland Truckers Association and the American Wood Workers Association. Melvin was a very patriotic man, he loved his time in the United States Navy. He attended many of his yearly Navy reunions from the USS William M Wood. He was also very proud of his service and safety record with Hahn transportation and M.S. Carriers.

Melvin enjoyed attending Bluegrass Festivals and working in the yard, but his true passions were in traveling with his daughter, who is a flight attendant, and spending time with his beloved wife Rosa.

In addition to his wife Rosa, he is survived by his children, Melvin Sours Jr., Rebekah Sours and Kristopher Arron Sours; grandchildren, Aubrina Wilson, Emma Sours, Tennyson Sours and Alaura Sours; his sister, Nancy Smoke and his nephews, David Smoke Jr. and Jeffrey Smoke, as well as many other nephews & niece's. 

In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, David Smoke.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, July 6, 2023 from 6 – 8pm at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21742.

His funeral service will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023 at 11am at Rest Haven Funeral Home and interment with military honors will follow.
