Michael Robert Keppel

Michael Robert Keppel, age 73, of Hagerstown, passed away peacefully on November 24th. Michael will be fondly remembered for his kindness, commitment, loyalty, and his dedication to his family. 

He was born on March 20, 1949 in Dunkirk, NY to the late Robert and Patricia Keppel. Michael was a Nittany Lion at heart, graduating from Penn State University with a degree in Accounting in 1970. His first job after college was with the Government Accountability Office, which he held for his entire career until he retired in 2008. Michael was a liver transplant recipient and was deeply moved by the impact to his life, dedicating support to the Donate Life, America mission and ultimately his remains to help further the understanding and advancement of transplant recipients.  

Michael was constantly seeking to further his education, returning to college classes in his final years to perfect his interests in writing and photography. He would like to be remembered as a supporter of the arts and a chess enthusiast, patiently teaching his children to play, and was happiest hiking with his grandchildren. 

Michael was preceded in death by his brothers, Clifford and John. He is survived by his brothers James Keppel and wife Helen Ann of Ellabelle, GA and William Keppel of Smethport, PA, his sister, Anne Comes and husband Rodger of Cyclone, PA, his two children, David Keppel and his wife Rebecca, and Erin Ipek and her husband Emrah. Michael also leaves behind six grandchildren that he was deeply proud of: Colton and wife Heather, Kamryn and wife Alex, Corbin, Alexandra, Nathaniel, and Emily. As well as 3 great-grandchildren, Ashton, Oakley, and Cade.

A Celebration of his life will be held on January 5, 2023 at 3pm at Resthaven funeral home in Hagerstown. The Family will receive friends and family one hour before the service.
