Miriam Ruth Tagg

September 18, 1923 — April 22, 2017

Heaven received an angel Saturday, April 22, 2017. Miriam Ruth Tagg, 93, in the presence of her loving family, went home to the waiting arms of her Father.

She was born Sept. 18, 1923, in Eau Claire, Wis., to Christian Albert Ryerson and Mae Semple (Waters) Ryerson Canning.

As a young child, she moved from Grand Rapids, Mich., to Hagerstown.


Miriam graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1941.

She was co-owner, with her husband, of Tagg's TV, retiring in 1989 after 39 years of business.

Miriam was a devoted member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church for more than 70 years. She taught youth and adult Sunday school for many decades. In recent years, she attended Washington Square United Methodist Church.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Ivan Lee Tagg Sr.; her brother, Christian (Bud) Ryerson; her grandson, Ivan Lee Tagg III; and her great- grandson, Adam Tagg.

Miriam is survived by her children, Joan Hiner and her husband, William, of Pinehurst, N.C., Lee Tagg and his wife, Pat, of Hagerstown, with whom Miriam resided, and Keith Tagg and his wife, Kim, of Hagerstown. Miriam is also survived by her grandchildren, Joe Corderman, Jodi Jones, Jill Helm, Robert Tagg, Lisa Hall, Cory Kayhoe and Lara Lombardi; as well as nine great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at Rest Haven Funeral Home Inc. with the Rev. Jerry Lowans officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.
