Paul L. Keplinger Jr., 82, of Hagerstown passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, March 22, 2022. Born November 27, 1939 in Hagerstown, he was the son of Paul L. and Thelma A. (Powell) Keplinger.
Paul graduated from South Hagerstown High School in 1957. He was employed by A&P Grocery before serving in the U.S. Army and retired after 25 years with IBM. He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Beaver Creek Country Club, and the Waynesboro Eagles Club. Paul was an avid sports fan who enjoyed rooting for the Maryland Terrapins and Washington Redskins. He especially loved his time spent watching movies and sports with his sons. His passions included jogging, golf, and bike riding. He completed the JFK 50 mile Ultramarathon 11 times, becoming the 15th member of the 500 mile club. Some of his life’s biggest thrills included rounds of golf at Pebble Beach, vacationing in Hawaii, and attending Drum Corp shows. Paul especially loved flounder fishing and boating in Chincoteague, VA, and spending time with his beloved grandchildren.
He is survived by two sons: Todd Keplinger of Damascus, MD (fiancée Cheri Gibson and her son, Tyler), Ron Keplinger (Tera) of Smithsburg, MD, and two granddaughters, Kayla and Eva. He is also survived by three sisters: Janet Cyzyk, Parkville, MD, Alice Kinch (Russ), Winnsboro, SC, and Mary Lou Keplinger, Vandalia, OH, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Nancy Huff Keplinger, infant son Curtis Lynn Keplinger, sister Rev. Beverly A. Bumbaugh of Waverly, OH; and brother Robert P. Keplinger of Hagerstown, MD.
Family will receive friends at Rest Haven Funeral Home in Hagerstown, MD, on Monday, March 28, from 6-8 pm. Services will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 10 AM at Rest Haven with Pastor Randy Reid officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery. Attendees are invited to join the family for food and fellowship following the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the March of Dimes, Donation Processing Center, P.O.
