Pearl R. "Sammy" White went home to the Lord on June 25, 2013 in Sarasota, FL.
Born July 14, 1921 in Martinsburg, WV, Sammy was the daughter of Paul and Pearl (Bohrer) Rider.
She grew up in Hagerstown, MD where she graduated from Hagerstown HS.
She went on to graduate from the nursing program at Washington County Hospital as a registered nurse and enlisted as an Army nurse in 1945. She was enroute to the South Pacific when the war ended. After marrying Skip, her husband of 63 years, she moved to the Baltimore MD area where she became a psychiatric nurse at Maryland's Rosewood State Hospital. She later served as Director of Nursing and Director of Nursing Education. Sammy also spent many years teaching in the Baltimore County Public School System.
In 1975, Sammy and Skip moved to Elkhart, IN, remaining there until moving to York, PA in 1999 where they spent much time with their children and grandchildren. They moved to Sarasota, FL in 2009 in their final years of retirement.
Sammy is predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Ellis "Skip" White, a son, R. Stuart White and a daughter, Susan G. White.
Sammy is survived by her sons, Paul E. White of Longboat Key, FL and J. Stephen White of Wilmington, NC. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
A Visitation will be held at the Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, MD on Saturday, June 29 from 12:00-2:00PM, with Deacon Jim Mason officiating. Funeral services will be immediately following. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
