Peggy Rebecca Hildebrand

Peggy Rebecca Hildebrand, 89, of Hagerstown, passed away, Wednesday, April 2, 2015 at Coffman Nursing Home, Hagerstown.

Born March 28, 1926 in Hagerstown she was the daughter of the late Boyd Anthony and Vallie Virginia (Steed) Snapp. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by four siblings, Boyd W. Snapp, Hazel Sweeney, Virginia Collier, and Helen Baum. Peggy was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Peggy left high school in 1943 to work as a timekeeper at Fairchild Aircraft during WW II and worked part time at Leiter Brothers Department Store in the shoe department, she then passed her GED and was assigned to her original graduating class of 1944. She left Fairchild in 1955 to become a full time mother and homemaker. Peggy volunteered at Washington County Hospital in the Chaplains office. She worked 17 years as a volunteer at Williamsport Nursing Home in the activities department and she also gave manicures and polished nails for patients. She wrote a monthly newsletter highlighting a resident each month. Peggy was nominated for "Maryland's Most Beautiful Citizens Award" and was honored with other nominees with dinner with the Governor. She received the J.C. Penny "Golden Rule Award" for exceptional volunteer service. She was a member of the B.P.O. 378 Ladies of the Elks and bowled on their league for a number of years. She also was a member of the American Legion Post 211 Ladies Auxiliary and Washington Square United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, John Edwin Hildebrand; two sons, Michael S. Hildebrand and wife JoAnne of Mt. Dora, Fla. and David A. Hildebrand and wife Barbara of Williamsport; one granddaughter, Beth Fields and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown with the Rev. Jerry L. Lowans officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the funeral home one hour prior to services.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Peggy's name to Washington Square United Methodist Church, 538 Washington Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21740.
