Peter John Schaffnit

Peter John Schaffnit, 79, of Hagerstown, passed away, Tuesday, September 3, 2013, at the University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore.
Born February 20, 1934 in Chambersburg, Pa. he was the son of the late Oscar and Mary (McGee) Schaffnit. In addition to his parents he also was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey D. Schaffnit and two sisters, Kathleen Thomas and Josephine Zadai.
Mr. Schaffnit was a four year US Air Force veteran.
He was owner and operator of Duke's Tavern of Hagerstown and had worked as a teller for OTB in Chambersburg.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Hagerstown; the Knights of Columbus, Pangborn Council No. 1365, Hagerstown and the American Legion Post No. 202, Williamsport.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary P. (Smith) Schaffnit; one son, Peter J. "Duke" Schaffnit of Hagerstown; one sister, Susie Rowles of Pleasant Hill, Pa.; two grandchildren, Tiah M. Thornton Schaffnit and Elijah I. Schaffnit.
Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
