Ralph Leroy Powell

Ralph Leroy Powell, 86, of Hagerstown, MD, passed from this life on Sunday, March 19^th, 2023, at Commonwealth Senior Living after a year’s long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Born April 23, 1936, in Beaver Falls, PA, he was the son of late Elmer Conner Powell and Thelma May (Ball) Powell

Ralph moved to Hagerstown in the 1960’s to work for Mack Truck and then later worked as a correctional officer for the state of Maryland until he retired.

He was one of 16 children and carried fond memories of the farm he grew up on as a young boy.  He enjoyed working outside in his yard, being with family, and returning every August to Beaver Falls, PA for the Powell Family Reunions.

He is survived by daughter Connie Young (Joe) of Williamsport, MD, son Steven Powell, of Hagerstown, MD, nephew Tim Bossler (Maureen) of Hagerstown, MD, stepson Ben Bennett (Phyllis) of Berkeley Springs, WV. Granddaughters’ Sarah, Emily & Katie Young and Lauren and Olivia Powell.

His surviving brothers are Charles, Ronald and Elmer Powell, his surviving sisters are Jan Tatro, Clara Deemer, Rose Dietrick, Doris (Jean) Eichler, Naomi Smith, Mary Waire, and Beulah (Honey) Brown, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Wanda Powell. Brothers Samuel, James, and William Powell and sisters Ruth Goehring, Alice Rambo.

His daughter would like to thank the caring and loving staff at Commonwealth Senior Living in Hagerstown, MD.

Ralph will be interred in a private burial at Cedar Lawn Memorial on Thursday March 23^rd, at 11:00 am.
