Richard Otto Schmelder

Richard (Rich) Otto Schmelder, 89, of Greencastle, PA went home to be with Jesus on August 27 2023. He was the loving husband of 61 years to Gail Schmelder.

Born on September 24, 1933, he was the son of the late Otto and Madeline (Miller) Schmelder. Following his graduation from Bristol High School, he entered the United States Air Force. Throughout his life he worked for New Britain Machine Company, Litton Industries, AVEMCO and Miami Valley Aviation as a pilot. He dedicated his life to serving his family and his Lord Jesus Christ.

In addition to his wife Gail, he is survived by his children, Laura Byers-Wells of Venice, FL, Leslie Provard of Greencastle, PA, Linda Dwight of Harvard, MA and Mike Schmelder of Lancaster, PA and nine grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Mitzi (Schmelder) Betzner, grandson Nathan Byers, and infant grandson Matthew Provard.

The family will hold a private graveside service at Rest Haven Cemetery, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
