Richard Lee Thomas

Richard Lee Thomas, 83, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed away unexpectedly at home on February 5,2023. He was the husband of Sarah J. Thomas. 

Born on January 29, 1940 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Pauline Thomas. He graduated North Hagerstown High, class of 1958. He enlisted right after high school and was very excited to serve his county in the United States Air Force. Richard graduated from Hagerstown Junior College in 1974 obtaining his associate of arts degree. He worked for 30 years, until his retirement in telecommunications for Bell Atlantic. He was a longtime member of the Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 in Hagerstown and a longtime member of Beaver Creek Country Club where he enjoyed his passion for golfing. He always enjoyed any opportunity to spend time with his family and friends. And enjoyed the occasional traveling with his wife Sarah.

In addition to his wife Sarah, he is survived by his son Scott Christopher Thomas; stepsons, William Lee Ruiz and wife Wendy and Devon Story Ruiz; grandchildren, Robert James Ruiz, William Douglas Ruiz, Steven Joseph Ruiz, Katelyn Waskiewicz, Eva Ruiz, Devon Ruiz and Alivia Ruiz and many other family members and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his mother, his beloved and cherished grandparents Nellie and John Thomas and son, Barry Lee Thomas. 

The family will receive friends from 10-11 am on Friday, February 10, 2023, at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Avenue, Hagerstown. 

The funeral service will be held at 11 am at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
