Richard (Dick) W. Myers, 93, passed away on Thursday, November 18th at Cadia Healthcare. He was born to Alton S. Myers & Maizie P. (Weaver) Myers (on July 29, 1928) in Cearfoss, MD and was the 2nd of three children (sister Helen Lorraine Myers (Elgin) and Donald S. Myers); parents and siblings are deceased.
Dick was married to high school sweetheart Mary (Betty) E. (Kroeger) Myers on December 19, 1947. He is survived by two sons, Douglas R. Myers and wife, Jeanne (of Durham, NC) and Phillip W. Myers and wife, Marcia (of Cary, NC), five grandchildren: Chadwick D. Myers and wife, Elizabeth, Kelly M. Caudill and husband, John; Scott P. Myers and wife Becky; Adam L. Myers and wife, Sarah; Todd A. Myers and wife, Julia; ten great grandchildren: Aiden, Landon, Kylie, Brooke, Allison, Coral, twins Brielle and Karis, Margaret and Nicholas.
Dick lived all of his life in Hagerstown. He attended Hagerstown High School (class of 1946), joined the Air Force, and upon release from his military service, worked and ultimately retired from the Washington County Hospital after 30 years of employment as the Director of Purchasing.
Dick was active in community baseball with his sons at the Valley Little League in Chewsville, MD and the Hagerstown Pony League.
Dick was an avid weekend golfer during his adult and golden years, and often vacationed at some of the well-known golf courses in surrounding states.
As a member of the Alsatia Club and former president, Dick looked forward to the annual Alsatia Mummers Parade. He was also a member of the Hagerstown Elks Club 378.
Dick was a lifelong member of St. Marks Lutheran Church.
Friends will be received on Friday, November 26, 2021 from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave Hagerstown, MD. A graveside service will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery with Pastor Ron Schlak officiating.
