Rick Lee Tegethoff

Richard Lee "Rick" Tegethoff passed away on April 9, 2018 after a brief battle with ALS.

Rick was born April 28, 1950 to Mary Lucille Tegethoff and the late Robert Tegethoff.

Rick graduated from Good Council High School and Frostburg University.

He retired in 2006 from the Montgomery County Dept. of Correction and Rehabilitation after 32 years of service. He began his distinguished career as a private first class and at the time of his retirement, he had achieved the rank of Deputy Warden of Custody and Security.

Rick was an avid kayaker. He also loved to ski, read newspapers and do martial arts.

In addition to his mother, Mary, he is also survived by his son, Eric Tegethoff (Maureen); a granddaughter Juniper; brothers, Robert (Diane), John (Jill), James (Ahn), and William (Katy); ex wife Eila, who he still cared deeply about; beloved companion of 20 plus years, Joanne Zacharias; nieces and nephews; friends and admirers.

Rick will always be remembered for his thoughtfulness, his sense of equity and a very even, calm disposition. He had a zest for life that was evident in his passionate approach to all of his activities and friends.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Friends and family are invited to a gathering to celebrate Rick's life on Sunday April 29, 2018 between the hours of 1PM-5PM at the Brunswick Volunteer Fire Hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to one of the following charities: The Frederick Rescue Mission; The Harpers Ferry Outdoor Festival; Friends of the Cheat; or Animal Welfare league of Frederick County, MD.
