Robert Elwood Stockslager

Hagerstown, MD Robert E. Stockslager, 93, of Hagerstown, passed away, Monday, August 11, 2014 at Emeritus Assisted Living, Hagerstown.

Born November 26, 1920 in Leitersburg, Maryland he was the son of the late Lester Charles and Ida May (Neal) Stockslager. In addition to his parents he also was preceded in death by his loving wife of 42 years, Betty Jane (Burger) Stockslager; two brothers, Clyde and Charles Stockslager and three sisters, Martha Hess, Alma Stone and Ella Mae Bingaman.

Mr. Stockslager retired with 42 years of service as an assembler for Landis Machine Company.

He was a member of First Christian Church, Hagerstown.

He was a US Army veteran of WW II, serving in the European Theater with the 82nd Reconnaissance Battalion and the 2nd Armored Division. He was wounded in France and received the Purple Heart. He also was a member of the VFW, Waynesboro, the Morris Frock American Legion Post No. 42, Hagerstown and the Hell on Wheels 2nd Armored Division Alumni.

His hobbies included reading and spending time with his family.

He is survived by two children, Robert Stockslager and wife Diana of Martinsburg, W.Va. and Sue Brozik and husband, Ron of Supply, NC; one grandson, Chad Brozik and wife Mari of Lexington, Ky.; two great grandchildren, Ariel and Maggie.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.

Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Maryland National Guard honor guard.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday one hour prior to services.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Robert's name to the Washington County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), 13011 Maugansville Rd., Hagerstown, MD 21742
