Robert Lee Bob Gossard

Robert “Bob” Lee Gossard, 83, of Shepherdstown, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2015 at the Hospice of the Panhandle, Kearneysville, WV.

Born August 16, 1932, in Clear Spring, MD, he was the son of the late, Leon Downs Gossard and Flossie Irene (Delauder) Gossard Guessford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Preston C. Guessford.

Mr. Gossard was a 1950 graduate of Hagerstown High School.

He served with the United States Army as a military policeman in Germany.

Mr. Gossard had a fifty year career in the grocery business, starting with H.L. Mills and later becoming a manager for Grand Union Supermarkets. Mr. Gossard opened Long Meadow Supermarket in the early 1980’s, and later retired from Martin’s Food Markets.

Prior to becoming ill, Bob enjoyed collecting model cars, listening to big band music, woodworking and playing bingo.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Patricia Ann (Ridenour) Gossard; one daughter Vicki Frick and husband, Kenneth of Falling Waters; one brother, William S. Gossard and wife Kathy, of Waynesboro; two granddaughters, Lissa Showe of Hagerstown and Wendy Ebersole and husband, Ryan, of Maugansville; four great grandchildren, Geraghty and Bryse Showe of Hagerstown and Emileigh and Sterling Ebersole of Maugansville.

Funeral services and burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s name to the Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville, WV 25430 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, West Virginia Chapter, 1601 2nd Avenue, Charleston, WV 25387.
