Robert Lee Willoughby, born in Baltimore, Maryland on August 19, 1936, died on Monday, May 2nd in his sleep at Shady Grove Medical Center in Maryland, surrounded by many who loved him.
A pioneer in the color photo-processing industry, Mr. Willoughby's career spanned nearly the entire length of that industry's prominence, from its rise in the late 1950s to its decline with the advent of digital photography at the beginning of the new millennium. Today, millions of people have old photographs in their albums that were printed, either by him, or by someone he trained and supervised.
Husband of Blanche in his youth, then Michele for many years after, father of Robert(d), Theresa, Christopher, Nicole, and Samantha, grandfather of five and great-grandfather of nine, his dreaming spirit left his failed body at 6:47 PM, while a golden sunset fell across his face from the window of his room, and his children held his hands.
He was loved; he was respected; he was admired; and he will be missed.
